Obesity: Public or personal health problem?

For many doctors and scientists, obesity is a very dangerous state for people because it causes chronic and degenerative diseases. That is why governments, through the Ministry of Health, must address this problem. In this sense, they must implement public policies that, first of all, sensitize the population to the health risks of obesity and overweight. Second, establish a new culture of healthy eating and physical exercise. And finally, that all people can have access to these measures to impact the community as a whole. This is very important, since clinical studies affirm that 46% of world mortality is due to problems derived from obesity.

On the other hand, there are people who argue that obesity is due to individual responsibility. In other words, the problem must be solved by people and not by governments. The reason is that everyone is responsible for their body and that they choose how they eat. As in physical exercise. Therefore, it is believed that people are obese by a personal choice and bad habits.

In my opinion, this problem must be addressed by state action, that is, it is a public health problem and must be urgently intervened. In the world, there are endless inequalities in all aspects, one of them is education, which serves to gain knowledge of the risks of obesity, as well as low wages that do not allow us to buy nutritious and healthy food. Therefore, it could be said that these inequalities are one of the causes of obesity
