ENGLISH 5: WRITING A REPORT

The purpose of this report is to describe and evaluate my experience of six weeks working in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland and to make future recommendations of this beautiful place.

The Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa located in the youngest lava field in western Iceland. Blaá Lónid, as it is called in Icelandic, was discovered by chance in the late 1970s, recognized worldwide for the medicinal properties of its waters, especially for the treatment of psoriasis. This is due to the composition of its geothermal water, as it constitutes a unique mixture of algae ingredients: rich in salts and other minerals, silica and blue algae that give the lake its characteristic tone.

My work experience

During my six weeks at Blue Lagoon, I was assigned to promote and spread a public health project targeting people with skin conditions. I worked in two different departments.

Location of people with skin diseases in Iceland.

In this department I spent around three months, where he learned to perform different functions, the first was to know Iceland geographically, its cities, the number of inhabitants and health centers destined for skin treatments. The second was to locate in each city people who suffer from psoriasis and other skin diseases such as: acne, impetigo and folliculitis. The third was to invite them to Blue Lagoon for free to treat their respective skin conditions.

Monitoring and reporting of patient results

My last three months I was in this department, monitoring the treatment of around 100 patients, and later in my last week writing a report with the main results, emphasizing the beneficial properties of the blue lagoon water to treat skin infections and its powerful effects on individual and social well-being. The above, because patients using this treatment indicated that their relationships with their peers and with themselves improved markedly.

General comments

In general, my time at Blue Lagoon seemed extremely beneficial to my professional training, I learned not only from another public service approach that aims to ensure that all inhabitants have the best conditions to be happy, but also the positive effects of natural treatments.

Conclusion

In summary, Blue Lagoon is an ideal place for students of Medicine and Sociology, since, on the one hand, it provides new knowledge to treat infectious skin diseases and, on the other, efficient methodologies to design public health policies that promote well-being of all the inhabitants.
